An AI Test Engineer specializes in testing AI and machine learning systems — evaluating model outputs for accuracy and safety, building golden datasets, and probing for hallucinations, bias, and prompt injection — combining traditional QA rigor with the newer skills AI systems specifically demand.
An Automation Engineer designs, builds, and maintains automated test suites and the frameworks underneath them — writing test scripts, integrating tests into CI/CD, and keeping suites fast and reliable rather than flaky. The role is code-heavy but more narrowly scoped than an SDET's broader system-building remit.

A QA Analyst focuses on analyzing requirements, designing test cases, and executing tests — often an entry-to-mid-level role emphasizing test planning and manual execution over heavy automation coding, though many QA Analyst roles increasingly expect at least some automation familiarity.
A QA Engineer is the broad, general title for someone who tests software and helps ensure its quality — writing test cases, executing manual and often automated tests, reporting defects, and contributing to test strategy. It's the most common umbrella title across the testing profession.
A QA Manager leads a testing team — setting test strategy, managing people and priorities, coordinating with engineering and product leadership, and owning quality outcomes at an organizational level rather than executing individual test cases day to day.
A QA Ops Engineer focuses on the infrastructure and tooling that testing runs on — test environments, CI/CD pipeline integration, test data management, and reporting dashboards — treating test infrastructure itself as a product to be engineered and maintained, similar to how DevOps treats production infrastructure.
A Quality Coach helps teams and individuals improve their testing practices and quality mindset — mentoring, training, and embedding good testing habits across an organization — a role focused on raising the overall quality capability of a team, rather than executing tests directly themselves.

An SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) is a QA professional who writes production-quality code to build test automation frameworks, tooling, and infrastructure — combining strong software engineering skills with testing expertise. Unlike a manual tester, an SDET is expected to design systems, not just execute test cases against them.
A Security Tester specializes in finding vulnerabilities in software — performing penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and security code review — combining traditional QA thinking with a deep, adversarial understanding of how systems actually get attacked in practice.

A Test Architect designs the overall technical strategy and structure for testing across a large product or organization — choosing frameworks, defining automation architecture, and setting standards other engineers build test automation on top of. It's a senior, highly technical role focused on systemic design over individual test execution.
A Test Consultant provides external, specialized testing expertise to organizations — assessing existing testing practices, recommending improvements, or executing a specific testing engagement — typically brought in for a defined project or period rather than as a permanent team member.
A Test Lead coordinates the testing effort for a specific project or team — assigning test cases, tracking progress, reviewing test plans, and serving as the primary point of contact for testing status — a hands-on leadership role that typically still involves some direct testing work alongside coordination duties.
